Chapter Eleven

“I’m sorry, little witch! I just wanted to be considerate to your other mates! Meurig and myself will not be able to allow others to touch you while we’re in the clutches of the breeding season!” I glared at Gideon half-heartedly later that day, freshly showered—for real this time— and annoyed at the Dragon.

“For the record, I’m the one that gets to decide who will be in my bed, not you,” I hissed, my glare dropping into a pout as I sat on the bed beside Anwyn— who was refusing to meet my eyes. Again.

“Speaking of being in your bed. Ame, I think I should wait a while before attempting anything with you again,” he finally spoke up, his voice quiet. I looked over at the Drow to find him glaring at the ground, fists clenched on his knees as though being near me physically pained him. I reached out to touch his shoulder, only for him to flinch away, lurching off of the bed to stand across the room, his blue eyes wild with panic.

“Do you blame me or something?” I asked, frowning in confusion. I didn’t think that I had done anything strictly wrong by the Drow, but I could be wrong. It was better to ask, just in case.

“Not at all, Ame. It’s just … until I get used to the ambient magic inside of me … Fae are intensely magical … having sex can sometimes invoke magic without even meaning to.” Anwyn’s voice was slightly high as he spoke, before he left the room quickly. Fleeing. Did I make a mistake?

“I offered to just release him. He didn’t have to bond with me,” I murmured, staring at the empty doorway. His rejection had always hurt, but this was a deeper, sharper hurt than I’d ever experienced from the Drow.

“Just give him time, Ame. You’ve done nothing wrong. He still wants you as a mate. He has some issues that he has to overcome from his servitude, plus his new addiction to magic. I say give him a week. He should be at least able to try by then,” Cal said from his prone position on a nearby bed, his form relaxed as he rested.

“This is true. He expressed worry about hurting you by accident, little opal,” Meurig growled, his voice nearly unrecognizable with how feral he sounded. I looked over at him in concern, and saw that his golden eyes had a red tint to them as he looked at me intently."Our heat is due tonight. You should take this time to prepare yourself. Perhaps soak in the springs. We will be staying here for the duration, then we can leave for mother’s hoard.”

I nodded in response, before leaving the room. I followed after Anwyn, rather than going straight to the hot springs. I had a fair bit of time before night would fall, and I intended to spend it with my favorite Drow. I walked through the hallways of the inn, casting my magic out in a light net, attempting to locate his familiar form.
